Can you find two answers to this ‘simple’ maths question? Only one in 1,000 people are smart enough

Gambar
RECKON you have what it takes to solve the “intelligence test” that has been sweeping Facebook? The mind-boggling test requires  users to complete a few sequences of numbers — and makers claim just one in 1,000 people can find two different solutions to the problem. The test, which has been leaving internet users scratching their heads, requires players to “think outside the box”. Makers from Go Tumble wrote on the test: “This maths riddle is not that simple. “Even though there’s usually one right answer for maths problems, two common solutions are causing heated debates all over the world.” The test requires users to see which rule has been applied to the top line, and then apply this to the following lines. If your rule is correct, you should reach the same answers as is shown on the first three lines, and then continue this to the fourth and final line to get the end solution. The test was uploaded on Wikr and has left many people baffled, so can you solve the e

Mars experiences turbulent snowstorms at night, new research shows

MARS is buffeted by turbulent snowstorms that occur only at night, according to a new study that revises our understanding of Red Planet weather. Up to now, it was thought that snow falling from low-lying Martian clouds settled slowly and sparsely to the ground in an environment bereft of violent winds. The new findings, reported in the journal  Nature Geoscience , suggest that ice-water particles swirling in a storm hit the ground within minutes, rather than descending gently for hours. But future colonists from Earth needn’t bother packing snow shoes, the lead researcher said. “It’s not as if you could make a snowman or ski,” said Aymeric Spiga, an expert on the dynamics of planetary atmospheres at Universite Pierre Curie in Paris. “Standing on the surface of Mars you wouldn’t see a thick blanket of snow — more like a generou

Solar eclipse 2017: Stargazers watch in wonder as eclipse casts shadow across United States

TOTAL Eclipse of the Heart singer Bonnie Tyler was among those who watched the cosmic performance of the century, which plunged the US into darkness. STARGAZERS have watched in wonder through telescopes, cameras and protective glasses as the moon blotted out the midday sun in the first full-blown solar eclipse to sweep the US from coast to coast in nearly a century. The total solar eclipse reached Oregon’s coast at 1.16pm Monday local time, marking the beginning of a 112km “path of totality” across America. NASA’s G-III aircraft picked up the rare celestial phenomenon in Salem, Oregon, showing the black orb of a moon covering the sun to create a glowing halo. The incredible moment plunged the area into darkness. “The show has just begun, people! What a gorgeous day! Isn’t this great, people?” Jim Todd, a director at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, told a crowd of thousands at an amphitheatre in Salem, Oregon. Singer Bonnie Tyler, meanwhile, is set to belt

MICROSOFT has reached an undisclosed settlement with the Australian Taxation Office believed to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Earlier this year,  The Daily Telegraph reported the ATO had hit seven publicly listed companies with tax bills of between $250 million and $800 million after extensive audit processes. It’s understood  Microsoft, Rio Tinto, BHP Billiton, Apple and Google  were among the companies targeted to recoup almost $3 billion in tax believed to be owed by multinationals. Microsoft officially reached an agreement with the tax office this morning which ended the audit process,  Microsoft’s Corporate  Vice President of Worldwide Tax Daniel Goff told an Australian senate inquiry into corporate tax avoidance today. Hacking link to USS McCain warship collision? Expert says ‘I don’t believe in coincidence’

THE collision of a second US warship this year points to the possibility of cyber espionage, an expert has warned. The US Navy ordered an investigation Monday into its entire 7th Fleet, based in the Pacific, after the USS John S McCain was involved in a run-in with an oil tanker near Singapore. The incident left a gaping hole in the destroyer’s hull, injured five sailors and left 10 sailors still missing. It was the second major collision in the last two months involving the 7th Fleet. Seven sailors died in June when the USS Fitzgerald and a container ship collided in waters off Japan. US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis announced a pause in operations of the fleet so officials can take a deeper look at its performance, including personnel, navigation capabilities, maintenance, equipment, surface warfare training, munitions, certifications and how sailors move through their careers. Navy Admiral John Richardson later clarified in a Twitter post that the review would include th

Should we stop using baby powder? The experts weigh in

A CALIFORNIA jury on Monday ordered drugmaker Johnson & Johnson to pay $US417 million ($525 million) to a woman who claimed she developed terminal ovarian cancer after using the company’s talc-based products. The case was one of thousands of lawsuits brought nationwide alleging the company failed to warn consumers of the risk of cancer from talc in its products. The jury made the award, which included $US347 million (($437 million) dollars in punitive damages, to Eva Echeverria after she filed suit in July of last year, a representative of the Los Angeles Superior Court told AFP. Echeverria, 63, developed the disease after decades of using Johnson & Johnson talc-based powders for feminine hygiene, according to media accounts. In a statement, Johnson & Johnson said it would lodge an appeal. “We will appeal today’s verdict because we are guided by the science, which supports the safety of Johnson’s Baby Powder,” company spokeswoman Carol Goodrich said in a stat
